Entrance wooden doorsWood is a traditional material for production of doors, including entrance doors. Wooden entrance doors have good sound-proofing and heat-insulating properties. Besides they can really decorate your dwelling both from outside and from inside.

Requirements to entrance wooden doors

Wood is a material which can hardly be compared to any other material by its aesthetical qualities. But by sound- and heat-insulating properties it conforms with all requirements established. As for safety, wooden entrance doors shall reliably protect from unwelcome invasion into the house and from different weather impacts. Regardless of door construction, all wooden entrance doors shall have external panel facing the street. It is made of wood with special treatment and covered with protective lacquers and paint.

Wooden entrance doors: solid, veneered, panelled

Wooden entrance doors can be solid, veneered or panelled.

Solid wooden doors (doors made of solid wood) are wooden doors the leaf of which is made of homogeneous material.

Veneered door is a wooden door made of laminboards. The leaf of veneered door is a frame made of wooden beams. Rigidity bars are inserted from space to space into binding for boarding not to sag. Door leaf itself is a coreboard. It is veneered from both sides, covered with melamine paper, laminated plastic, hard fibreboard (medium-density fibreboard), thin veneer.

If leaves are boarded with veneer in several layers, these layers shall interlace along the direction of fibers, and it will prevent the door from casting and shrinkage.

panelled doorsEdges of veneer board are glued with bars of the wood which matches the face layer of veneer. Lock mechanisms are installed on a vertical bar. Threshold of veneered door is usually made of solid bar.

Panelled door is a wooden door made of panels. Panels are flat panels made of boards, veneer, particle board, glass and even plastic. Panels are inserted into binding slots, and binding beams are connected with each other by girders (pins).

Solidity of panelled wooden door depends on the number of panels in the door.

Depending on the method of connection with binding, panels are divided into smooth, floating, with frame, with fillets. Smooth panels are made of boards up to 10 cm wide. They are glued with each other and sometimes they are veneered from both sides. Floating panels are made of thick boards or two thin boards (or veneer boards) arranged in the form of "sandwich”, between which a layer of sealant is put. Such panels are used in exterior panelled doors over 40 mm thick.

Construction of entrance wooden door

Construction of entrance wooden door shall be enforced. It is determined by functions laid on entrance wooden door. It shall have a threshold, sealants, heat insulator, lock mechanism, peephole and handle. Plinth of entrance wooden door is better to be made of metal.
